How to get the most out of an In Person in Home Consult in the age of Corona Virus
In Home consults will be offered in those situations that in person help would be better suited.
One day prior to the consult, a screening questionnaire will be sent to the mother’s email. If either the mother, or myself, has become exposed or develops symptoms prior to the consult, the consult will be cancelled and can be done virtually instead.
I will limit my exposure to one in home consult per day (or less)
During the consult, no one will be in the room except the consultant, the mother, and the infant. No exceptions. I will wear a mask the whole time, and frequently wash my hands. I will ask you to wear a mask when we are close to each other, but whenever possible, I will stay 6 ft away from you so that you may take your mask off while feeding.
I wipe my scale down between clients with alcohol cleaning wipes. I also use a paper barrier (one time use).
If you can, think about pre-recording short video of your baby doing what you are trying to show me. Especially if he/she doesn’t “do it” everytime. Meaning, fuss at latch, or slipping off, of making sounds etc these are a few examples of something you might want me to see, but your baby may or may not do when we have the actual consult. You can text or email those short videos to me ahead of time.
If you can, consider taking pictures of your baby lying flat on his/her back so I can see the posture. Take pictures of inside your baby’s mouth while another adult lifts the tongue to show the frenulum undeath. A good way to do this to hold the shutter button down, taking bursts of photos, then picking out the clearest ones. Or take a video.
If your consult is about follow up after frenectomy, consider having someone take a video of you doing a stretch session and letting me see it.
If your consult is about pumping, have your pump set up and ready when we start the consult
When sending me photos or videos, you can send by text or email if you are comfortable with that. If you prefer more privacy, you can log into the Mobile Lactation App that you used to send me your intake forms. You will find a chat option inside the app. Text me to let me know that you sent me something via that private chat option.
